Current Project Full size

I have been busy recently. I am working with a group of local ladies trying to get our local Modern Quilt Guild up and running. So with that I am trying to get a project finished so that I can have it ready for our first show and tell/meet n greet. I have about ten days or so to get the top finished up. I sure hope that I will be able to achieve it. I would love to have it completely quilted but that is pushing it since I have my mother long arm all my quilts and she lives four hours from us. I just don't see that happening especially since she squeezes all my quilts in between her commissioned quilts. I won't push my luck since they are paying customers and I am not. I haven't worked on anything else but this quilt. What do you think of it?

Happy Easter

Today is Easter one of my very favorite holidays. I think because my family didn't make such a big deal about it when I was growing up. We did the church thing and occasionally colored eggs but that was it. I really try to make it a fun special day for my kids.

Well I have been working on all kinds of projects. I need to finish up some of these quilts instead of starting new ones. I did finish up a rag quilt yesterday. I just need to wash it. It's a baby quilt but not your typical theme. I made one about six months ago for my nephews baby. I wanted to make it with the "hunting/fishing" theme so I used those fabrics. Well I guess the quilt was a HUGE hit with all the friends of my nephew and his girlfriend. She asked me if I would make her one for her friend who is due in June.

I did start a quilt today for my daughters best friend whom we call daughter #2. It is a diamond shape design with black background. I am using bright colors for the diamond pattern. They should really pop with the black background.

I need to finish my bowtie quilt, the granny square one, decide on if I am going to sew up the squares for a mystery quilt I cut fabric for, finish cutting and make my best friend her quilt and of course continue to work on my hexi english paper piecing.

I am attaching a pic of the baby quilt, let me know what you think?

Granny Squares

I have to thank Mrs Katy over at http://imagingermonkey.blogspot.com/2012/03/strip-piecing-granny-square-block.html?showComment=1332304888644#c1161077211192851540 for posting this tutorial on the granny squares. I am a fairly confidant quilter as I have only been doing this for a few years. She has made this so easy to make. If I can make them anyone can. I like to give her a big thank you.

ok I know I got two green squares together and I fixed it on the next blocks but they turned out great. I am making mine with a scrappy look with Kona "snow". This quilt with be beautiful. Again thank you

WIP Wednesday

Well I thought I would join people in over-viewing the projects I am currently working on. I worked on basting for my hand hexagon quilt tonight. Yesterday I finished up gathering and making the blocks for a rag quilt now just need to sew together then the tough part of cutting the "ragginess". Have all fabric cut to finish bowtie quilt for SIL and still working on cutting fabric for bowtie quilt for bff. Oh and this past weekend I did both Jan and Feb BOM. We went to my mothers and she helped me. Sometimes I get easily confused by patterns.

swap challenge

So I belong to several different quilting websites. On one of them this past summer I joined a challenge to make a quilt out of and "ugly" fabric. It was so much fun and I pushed my creativity. So on another site I decided to start my own. So far there are 20 of us ladies in the challenge. I was wondering if you had the following fabric would you be able to make a quilt with it. You would have to use all 1/3 of a yard in the top? What kind of pattern would you do? What fabrics would you use? I am just curious of all you readers creativity.

Quilt Names

I don't know why but I have always wondered why a lot of quilters name there quilts? Is it to keep track of them? Do they have a personality? I find a connection with my quilts but not enough to name them. I give most of mine away. I figure the person who receives the quilt is in charge of naming there own quilt. I usually just call them by the pattern and color such as green bowtie, blue bowtie or red fence rail or orange fence rail. What is your opinion on this? Do you name your quilts?

Projects

So I am currently working on many different projects. I wish that I could just finish one then move to another then on to another. I hear this is a problem for most crafters though. So I am working on a rag quilt that I am using denim and flannels. I am not following any pattern what so ever just putting two fabrics together and sewing. We shall see how it turns out. I will try to figure out how to post a picture on here when I get it completed. I am working on a baby rag quilt for my kids cousin's friend. I made them one a few months ago when they had there son. Then all her friends fell in love with it because it isn't your typical type baby blanket. I use "hunting style" flannels to make the rag quilt. (see the picture above)  I figured it is defiantly a manly man blanket for them to carry there kids around with. I started a bow tie quilt this past summer and I just bought more fabric to make it bigger than I originally planned on. I am thinking that I will be sending it to my sister in law once I am done with it. They have been going through some rough stuff so it will be a good pick me up for them. For her to know that we love them. Then I started a quilt for my best friend but I am still in the cutting faze. I also cut up fabric for a mystery quilt. My sister in law moved in with us for a couple of months so projects were started then put on hold. Then once I got my sewing room back I just started back up with the ones that were closer to being done. Oh and I can't forget my hand project. I have many of these and one day I will get into these.
This past weekend was the huge Sew Expo in the PNW. I went with a friend whom I recently met from a quilting board. She is so awesome. I really like her. We spent seven hours at the expo just going from booth to booth. Talking about our lives, crafts and skills. She belongs to a craft guild not a quilt guild and I really am considering joining her. For one it would be someone I know there and they do more than just quilts. I do like to do craft stuff.
I am hoping by writing about them I can help get myself organized and get projects done. Do you guys find yourself the same way? Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Have a wonderful night.

Positively

So I have been trying very hard to be more positive about life. I don't always want to be the one that complains. I have done that enough in my life. I have so many good things in my life. I have a wonderful husband, three healthy kids, parents who love me, food on the table, roof over our head, money to pay these things(most of the time). We have had our struggles but honestly it could be a lot worse off. I want to try to "diet" or like I say I want to make permanent lifestyle changes. I would love for my diabetes to be under control. So here goes to a new way of life. Today I am thankful for:
1. children free weekend
2. pain medication
3. sewing
4. hubby's new company they are working for
